Born in Bangkok, Rujanee Mahakanjana is a native of Thailand, now living in Chicago and working as an artist, interior designer, a filmaker, and an educator. After she received her master's degree in studio arts in 2005, she continues to grow, connect, and collaborate with others in a broad spectrum of creativity. She believes various art forms can come together; traditional or contemporary, spatial movement and composition, especially with time involved. The concept of space within and its essence underlines most of her work in all forms created by herself and most of her studio collaborators.
"while most people often recognize form as beauty, I am more attracted to a void; the essence of inner, outer, and in-between space; in all possible scales. My work is not physically recognized as a known-abstract, but rather represented through symbolism with an abstract content; a statement within like a message in a bottle. Self-awareness, human relationships, secrets and transformation underlines most of my work. I tend to challenge the dimensional reality, that exists not only in one,two, or three, but countless. This motivates me to move out of my comfort zone, and become a spatial explorer searching for a meaning within drawing, painting, sculptural spaces, performance art and film."
